The apostle, Stephen--noted to be “a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit”--was a person chosen to distribute food and aid to the needy. He provided excellent care, but others falsely accused and convicted him of blasphemy. Stephen was stoned and became Christianity’s first martyr.
Two thousand years later, Pastor Kenneth C. Haugk, of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO, began a ministry in his church in which trained lay people having the gift of “caring ministry” worked with people experiencing difficult life situations. This program was entitled Stephen Ministry.
Today, this caring ministry is an important part of our mission here at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. A Stephen Minister works with a care receiver undergoing challenges by offering Jesus’ unconditional love and acceptance through confidential one-to-one care, support, and prayer. A Stephen Minister is there for you!
